Discover the trilogy of children's books, written in collaboration by Dr. Josephine Yalovitser and myself, that covers common otolaryngological conditions and their associated treatments.
These engaging novels are a wonderful addition to any pediatric or pediatric subspecialty clinic, and they are also suitable for families with children undergoing procedures such as ear tube placement or tonsil and adenoid removal.
Our goal when writing these books was to entertain and educate children, so they have the knowledge to understand the conditions they (or friends/family members) may be experiencing, and gain confidence in navigating doctor-patient interactions and treatments for the best possible outcome.
Our books are available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Books, and many other major retailers.
In Tommy's Tonsil Tales, meet a bright and bouncy boy whose sore throats and loud snoring lead him on a journey to the hospital. Follow along as Tommy learns why tonsils and adenoids sometimes need to be removed, what a tonsillectomy is like, and how recovery can even include a little ice cream.
Generous funding for our work was received from the Dr. Laurence H. Coffin Award from the Department of Surgery at the Robert Larner, M.D., College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, which was used for professional editing and publication by Onion River Press, and distribution of the books. With our funding, we were able to distribute our books throughout the University of Vermont Health Network pediatric offices with locations across Vermont, Upstate New York, and New Hampshire. Moreover, our work was supported by two faculty mentors at the University of Vermont to ensure we received broad expertise and validation of the content and evidence-based medicine within our books.
The books were written in honor of Dr. Laurence Coffin.
